The historical aesthetic and richness of Gölyazi cannot be told at once, various activities can be made and beautiful memories can be collected here. Shortly, the village of Gölyazi is a village on the bank of Lake Ulubat which is connected to Nilüfer district. There are two peninsula at the north of Lake Ulubat , and there are 7 islands within the lake, the village is connected to the island in the middle of the lake by a bridge.
Today Turks who came from Thessaloniki are living in the village which was inhabited by the Greeks until the War of Independence. People deal with agriculture and fishing.
There is an ancient city behind the hill that is on the left side of the entrance of the village. This area is entirely protected.
It is possible to make a tour around the islands with a fishing boat.
When the water is drawn around the island ruins and roots of the willow trees appears.
It is possible to watch the magnificent view of the sunset from the island. For this, the Zambak peak can be recommended as the most suitable place.
It is impossible not to wonder about the history of the tree which is a legend in Bursa. It can be explained shortly in the following way…
A Turkish man called Mehmet and a Greek girl called Eleni were in love with each other. They always met under this plane tree…
Mehmet who saw the brother of Eleni among the people leaving Apolyomtan said that he was looking for Eleni. The brothers told Mehmet not to make things more difficult and to forget about Eleni. But Mehmet resisted and a fight broke out. Eleni’s brother Yorgi stuck his knife into Mehmet. The wounded Mehmet went into the cave of the plane tree.
Meanwhile a close friend of Eleni told her that Mehmet had a fight with her brother. Then Eleni left the convoy and went to the plane tree, where she found Mehmet dead. Eleni committed suicide there. It is said that sometimes, blood drops were falling from this plane tree. That is why this tree is referred to as crying plane.

It is a mosque built by Yildirim Bayezid in Bursa between 1395 and 1399 which is the largest of the architectural Works in Bursa. It is the first example where the Seljuk mosques which are built with flat roof and columns were turned into dome-shape. It has 20 domes. There is a fountain under the open dome. Around the fountain there are sofas reserved for reading Quran.
It is located within the Yeşil (green ) neighbourhood. It was built by Çelebi Sultan Mehmet in 1419. The Green Mosque is an example for mosques planned in the shape of a reversed T.
It was built by the son of Yıldırım Bayezid called Sultan Mehmet Çelebi in 1421. Its architect was Hadji Ivaz Pasha. The building which has become a symbol of Bursa has a location which can be seen everywhere in the city. When I. Mehmet Celebi ordered the construction of the tomb he was still healthy but 40 days later he died.
Its door which is an art masterpiece itself was made by Ali the son of Tebrezli Ahmet by carving from a walnut tree.
Its tiled mihrab is considered to be the masterpiece of the Ottoman art of tile. The painters of the tomb were Ali bin İlyas Ali and Mehmet el Mecnun.
When Bursa was conquered, it was a Military Base on the trade route. During the process of creating the Ottoman Bursa, inns and baths were built and a “Long Bazaar” was created under the Tahtakale. This was the birth of the Closed Bazaar, which has been destroyed by fire, earthquake and was rebuilt again and again throughout the centuries. The Closed Bazaar which is the commercial and shopping center of Bursa, has not lost its historical image yet. It is still one of the popular shopping places in Bursa.
It is known that this bazaar provides place for dress makers, candy sellers, shoemakers and knife sellers. The sale of the real estates through auction was carried out at this market also called as Suk-I Sultan.
Evliya Çelebi stated that the Long Bazaar included 9000 shops. As we have already talked about the Closed Bazaar, it is obvious that this bazaar was open at that time.

The feudal landlord who dominated the region during the Byzantine Empire had only one daughter. The father loved his daughter very much, but the girl one day suddenly became ill. The cruel illness lasted too long. The doctors of that time could not find the cure for the illness of the landlord’s daughter. The doctors who were unable to find the cure for the disease advised to send the girl to the thermal spring which was unknown at that time to give her a last chance for treatment and to keep her away from the father.
They believed that the patient could not get rid of this disease. The ill daughter was brought to this thermal spring. She was left there. The girl who believed to have an incurable disease had a bath every day in this healing water, and then she began to heal day by day.
In a short time she turned back to her old health and beauty. After she got better, she returned to the palace of her father. Since then the Ölyat (die-lay) thermal spring was recognized and used as a healing resource by the local people. The healing water is still the same but its name has changed with the time and became Oy-lat. Some people in İnegöl, Bilecik, Pazaryeri, Yenisehir and İznik still call this water Ölyat.
The cave was formed by a huge collapse hall. The width of this hall which has a rise of 93 meters between its starting and ending points is between 25 and 55 meters while its ceiling heights varies between 3 and 15 meters. The last above section of the hall which consist of large blocks and giant stalactites (stalactites, stalagmites and columns) consists of a thick gravel, sand and shaft layers. Oylat which consists of sections having different developmental and meteorological characteristics is rich in terms of biome. This biome includes wounds, binoculars, butterflies, worms and guanoles. There is a noticeable wind in the narrow galleries and passageways that connect the cave halls and floors.
